The Philadelphia Phillies are a team of Major League Baseball based in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. They are also known by their nicknames, the Phillies, the Phillies Fightin 'or, simply, the Fightin's. The Philadelphia Athletics (now Oakland) formerly Crosstown rival club in the first half of the 20th century (1901-1954). Today Phillies are the only active Major League franchise in Philadelphia.
The Phillies played in the Eastern Division of the National League since the realignment divisions in 1969. They have the distinction of being the oldest continuous names, city franchise in all professional American sports.

In 1883 Alfred Reach, together with Col. John Rogers to buy Worcester Brown lower the NHL and the move to Philadelphia. REACH, Alfred is a former player and a manufacturer of sports, while Colonel John Rogers is a lawyer and politician. In the 1890s, the new name "Phillies" (a tribute to his city home), always strong listing record of 70 wins or more, but none has been necessary to move to range from little or extend the brushes mere possibility of a flame or a championship.

The Phillies intend move its AAA affiliate in Allentown near, Pennsylvania, in April 2008 when the team, called the Lehigh Valley IronPigs will play in a newly built stadium, stadium Lehigh County.
