Eco-friendly gifts for a grave site?

I want to leave my mother, who died last year, presents his grave. Since I left the things for Christmas, birthday and Mother's Day I realized how many things could accumulate. I've done in the past, balloons and flowers (commercial), but I think that these things are very environmentally friendly. Not to mention greeting cards that I leave. I live in the north so it can not bring fresh flowers very often not I think the commercial is the best or truth and sincerity. I also thought of planting something, but I would bring something new to this party. Any unique ecosystems, friendly suggestions would be great!
